‘MEC in Action’ sees agency staff helping the community
Mediaedge:cia (www.mecglobal.com), a leading media agency, last week dedicated an entire day of company time to helping local community projects across London as part of its ‘MEC in Action’ initiative.
On Tuesday 28 April, farms, schools and nature reserves across the capital got the MEC treatment as over 200 staff of all levels and across all departments took time out to get their hands dirty helping the local community.
In a marked move from the traditional corporate away day, sites such as Spitalfields City Farm, Dulwich Upper Wood nature reserve and Gloucester Primary School were selected alongside campaigns such as the Trees for Cities urban planting project as deserving of MEC’s help.
Alongside their teams, the senior management – no strangers to getting their hands dirty – got stuck in, with UK CEO Tom George displaying his animal loving credentials by building a hedgehog house. Managing director Steve Hatch joined in by helping to restore Southwark’s only City Farm and deputy managing director Alex Altman planted 81 meters of hedgerow at Bermondsey Spa.
Following the day Steve Hatch commented: “It’s amazing and very humbling to see what our team can do, in just one day, to help transform our local community. When you consider how much of a difference can be made by a single business in just one day, there’s no limit to how much can be achieved if more companies across London committed just one day to local projects. In the words of the great philosopher poet Bob, 'Can MEC fix it? YES we can!’”
